It's been very silent in the band camp of Finnish melodic metal titans but this break has been put to good use: the band has entered the studio to start the recording process for their tenth studio album, due in 2019 through Nuclear Blast. But before their new record will see the light of day, Sonata Arctica will embark on a special journey - their very first acoustic run across European soil. Kamelot have announced a bombastic second North American leg of their "The Shadow Tour" with support from Sonata Arctica and Battle Beast. What was originally announced as a one off performance has now become a full blown North American tour. Kemi-based vocalist Tony Kakko, mostly known as the mastermind and vocalist of Sonata Arctica, is set to perform two solo concerts in Oulu titled Sonata Sinfonica, with the Oulu Symphony Orchestra, lead by the conductor Jukka Myllys. These two exclusive shows are surely to refresh the Sonata Arctica classics with symphonic arrangements. The shows will be held at the Oulun Musiikkikeskus, on April 29th-30th 2017.

Shortly after releasing their fresh new album, The Ninth Hour, the Finns Sonata Arctica announce that they will return to Europe for another trek in 2017. The band finished their European tour with Swedish adventure metallers Twilight Force last Saturday with a sold out show in Bochum, Germany. After their forthcoming North American tour, the band will hit European stages once again starting on February 20th, 2017. Support on this leg will come from Norwegian metallers Triosphere (February 20th - March 20th), also Finland-based heavy metallers Thunderstone (March 22nd - April 9th) and Canadian heavy metallers Striker. Finnish melodic metal quintet Sonata Arctica has started to work on the follow-up album to the 2014' Pariah's Child record. To top off the already great news, the band has announced that they will return this fall for a 33-date headlining tour of North America. The kick-off show is slated for November 6th at The Fillmore in Charlotte, NC. Supporting the band will be German-Norwegian symphonic metallers Leaves' Eyes and Finnish melodic death metallers Omnium Gatherum as opening act on this tour.

After Sonata Arctica's singer Tony Kakko worked with Finnish supergroup Raskasta Joula on the Christmas carol "Pieni Rumpali" ("Little Drummer Boy") video, now the Finnish metallers are preparing a surprise of their own. Their new Christmas single is entitled Christmas Spirits, and is due out on December 18th via Nuclear Blast. It will be released via digital download and as a limited edition EP, only available at the Nuclear Blast Online Shop.
